About the Denby Dale Pie
The first official recording being in 1815 after The Duke of Wellington’s victory over Napoleon at Waterloo. It has however been noted that this pie had a predecessor, in 1788 a pie was created to celebrate the then, King George III’s, recovery. Unfortunately there is no written record of its contents or of the day’s events, but it has been suggested it was filled with game and served to local villagers.
Many more pies were made over time, with some ending in disaster such as the 1846 pie, where the stage collapsed and the 1887 pie which had gone bad when cut into!
The Bicentenary Pie of 1988 is probably the most famous. It was created to celebrate 200 years since the first pie, and was so big, made it into the Guinness book of Records as the biggest meat and potato pie, in the world!

About the Denby Dale Pie Hall
The Pie Hall is located in Denby Dale, on the outskirts of Huddersfield and was opened in 1972 from funds raised from the pie of 1964. It is home to many of the historic items used in the creation of the many Denby Dale Pies throughout history. The Pie Hall is used for local and community events, classes and can be hired privately. It also features new office space for several local businesses, including ours.
Will there be another pie? We hope so, we love a bit of pie!!
