Top events of 2013?

So it turns out there are a lot of sport fans out there, with the biggest UK event noted on Twitter being when Manchester United were knocked out of the champions League by Real Madrid back in March. In second place came the 2013 New Year celebrations, followed in third by Andy Murray’s impressive win at Wimbledon back in June. All but two events in the top ten were sports related!

Most retweeted?

The most popular retweet of 2013 was one posted from Glee star Lea Michele, thanking people for their support on the death of her boyfriend, Cory Monteith. The tweet was retweeted 408,000 times

New Features on Twitter?

December 2013 saw the launch of the new Twitter Alerts system, allowing government, rescue services and charities to push out urgent messages at a time of crisis. The @EnvAgency and @EssexPoliceUK were one of the first to take advantage of the feature when the storms hit at the beginning of the month to warn of impending evacuation and flood risks.
