Wander launched their site with an “utterly pointless leaderboard” giving users points for sharing their site via variety of social media platforms. It also offers a click the cow mini game.

The interesting thing is that Wander don’t appear to have a product or service yet via the intriging nature of the placeholder website they have managed to share to a vast number of users and in fact have secured over 10,000 user registrations on their website.

This is a great example of how social media platforms work, and how it can be used to effectively promote products and services – even ones that don’t actually exist yet.
