The new BBC homepage got launched the other day. First impressions? Awful. Hideous.

A significant lack of colour makes the page feel clinical, gone are the nice red’s from the old version of the design.

The elements within the scrolling feature block are such a mishmash of sizes it makes it incredibly difficult to concentrate on any particular item. A massive usability turnoff for me. Apparently for most of the people posting on the blog about the launch seem to agree that the new homepage just isnt up to scratch.

Update: 17/02/2012 – Just spotted in the comments on the BBC’s website that one of the readers picked up on this post about the BBC and quoted us. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/aboutthebbc/2011/12/bringing-together-bbc-corporate-sites.shtml Good to know that people appear to agree with what I’ve said.
